How the Online Process Works

  • Schedule a convenient time using our online booking system. You'll receive a preliminary intake form to complete and instructions for the secure identity verification process required by the Law Society of Ontario.

  • Meet with Benjamin by video conference to discuss your needs, family situation, assets, and wishes for your estate plan. This is your opportunity to ask questions and ensure you understand the options available to you. If you decide to proceed, you'll receive a retainer agreement and pay the flat fee into trust to get started.

  • You'll receive a comprehensive questionnaire to gather all necessary information about your executors, attorneys, guardians (if you have minor children), beneficiaries, and your distribution wishes. This ensures your documents accurately reflect your intentions.

  • Benjamin drafts your Will and Powers of Attorney based on your instructions. You'll receive the draft documents in advance to review, and then meet with Benjamin via Zoom for a detailed draft review meeting where he explains each clause and confirms the documents reflect your wishes. Any necessary revisions are made at this stage.

  • You'll receive a package containing your final documents and clear instructions. During a scheduled Zoom meeting, you'll sign your documents while Benjamin and a second witness watch via video conference and simultaneously sign their copies, in accordance with Ontario law for the remote execution of Wills.

  • You'll return your signed documents by mail or courier. The firm assembles the final original documents, prepares a sworn Affidavit of Execution, and either returns the originals to you, or puts them into secure storage, based on your choice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a Will signed remotely over Zoom legally valid in Ontario?

Yes. Ontario's Succession Law Reform Act and Substitute Decisions Act were permanently amended to allow remote execution of Wills and Powers of Attorney using video conferencing technology.

What does "flat fee" mean and when do I pay?

A flat fee means you know the exact cost upfront—there are no hourly billing surprises. The full fee is paid at the beginning of the process after your initial consultation and is held in the firm's trust account. It is only transferred to the firm once all the legal work is complete

What if my situation is complicated?

The standard packages are designed for straightforward estate plans, such as leaving your estate equally to your children or to your spouse with a backup plan. If your situation involves complex family dynamics, special needs planning, significant business assets, or specialized trusts, Benjamin will identify this during the initial consultation and provide a customized quote.

How long does the process take?

From your initial consultation to receiving your final executed documents typically takes three to four weeks, depending on your schedule and how quickly you complete the questionnaire and arrange the execution meeting. The process is designed to move efficiently while ensuring you have time to review and understand your documents thoroughly.

What do I need to participate in the remote process?

You'll need a computer, tablet, or smartphone with a camera and microphone for the Zoom meetings, a stable internet connection, and a printer to print your documents for signing. If you don't have access to a printer, arrangements can be made to courier printed documents to you in advance.

Can I update my Will in the future?

Yes. Life circumstances change, and your Will should reflect those changes. You can return to Andromeda Law at any time to update your documents. Depending on the nature of the changes, this might involve preparing a formal Codicil (amendment) or drafting a new Will entirely.
